Learn How to Keep Honeybees Successfully & Responsibly
Our Apiculture Apprenticeship Program is a comprehensive, full-season beekeeper training program that prepares aspiring beekeepers to manage honeybee hives successfully and responsibly. Unlike a traditional beekeeping school that offers 1-2 days of learning, our program provides participants with workshops and mentorship throughout a full beekeeping season. This approach helps aspiring beekeepers gain the confidence, skills, and knowledge they need to care for honeybees well. Upon graduating from the Apiculture Apprenticeship Program, apprentices have the opportunity to join The Honey Collective as a cooperative member. Costs to participate range from $350-500.
2024 applications are now closed.
How It Works
Monthly Workshops (April - October)
Apprentices attend monthly beekeeping workshops throughout the beekeeping season. These workshops are held at one of The Honey Collective's cooperative apiaries. At each workshop, apprentices learn specific hive management skills and strategies. Skills taught during each workshop are based on trends in hive development during the beekeeping season.
Tailored Mentorship
If you already have your own hives, as an apprentice you'll gain the opportunity to have the program's educator visit your personal hives up to 3 times during the program. These tailored mentorship sessions will help you evaluate what's happening in your own hives and make informed hive management decisions to ensure your colonies' health.
Network of Support
The Honey Collective's Apiculture Apprenticeship Program provides wraparound support to apprentices. Beyond workshops and tailored mentorship, apprentices are invited to events to connect with The Honey Collective's broader network of members who are able to answer beekeeping questions and share learnings outside of scheduled meeting times.
